30 September 2022 is the last day you can use £20 and £50 paper notes

Paper £20 and £50 notes are being withdrawn

The paper £20 features Adam Smith.

The paper £50 features Matthew Boulton and James Watt.

The last day you can use these notes is 30 September 2022.

They have been replaced by new polymer £20 and 50 notes

The new £20 features JMW Turner. It entered circulation on 20 February 2020.

The new £50 features Alan Turing. It entered circulation on 23 June 2021.

You can use paper £20 and £50 notes until 30 September 2022

After this date, you can deposit them with your bank, if you have a UK bank account.

The Post Office may also accept withdrawn notes as a deposit into any bank account you can access with them.

The Bank of England will always exchange its withdrawn notes. You can send them to us by post at your own risk.
