National Fish & Chip Awards 2012

Now in their 24th year, the Awards recognise and reward businesses producing the best fish and chips across the UK. There are a variety of award categories to enter and businesses are appraised on criteria ranging from sustainable sourcing practices, customer service, hygiene and staff training, and most importantly, the quality of fish and chips.
The Awards provide a great platform for media activity/PR opportunities for individual entrants and the fish and chip sector as a whole. There are great media opportunities to be gained by shops by just participating. The Awards also provide a benchmark for business development and can be a strong motivational tool for staff.
The accolade of being judged one of the best fish and chip businesses in the UK can have an enormous impact on business, with previous award winners seeing their sales increase by up to 100% within weeks of winning.
“The National Fish & Chip Awards are the ultimate showcase for our wonderful industry and I would strongly recommend that the owners of all ambitious and progressive fish and chip shops and fish and chip restaurants enter the competition.
I have been involved with the competition, entering a number of categories, for the last few years and I have seen my sales increase as a direct result of being a regional finalist in the main award category on two occasions and by winning the Good Catch and Best Independent Restaurant Award categories.
The fish and chip market will continue to face severe competition from a broad spectrum of other takeaway food markets, therefore the positive publicity that you can generate for your business, by entering the awards and by taking advantage of publicity opportunities, will help you to increase your sales in the intensely competitive market place for takeaway food.” Richard Ord, Colmans of South Shields.
“If I have one piece of advice for any fish and chip business owner, it would be to enter the awards. The impact of winning the national award has been huge and as the winner of the Staff Training and Development award, my staff have also benefited from a boost in confidence and motivation. Following my success in the awards, I had to invest in a new range to cope with the increase in trade and the publicity the shop has received since winning has been fantastic.” Giovanni Fionda, Atlantic Fast Food, 2010 national winner.
At every stage of the awards there are excellent local PR and marketing opportunities for participating businesses.
Development of the awards is overseen by an Industry Steering Group comprising representation from the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF), the National Edible Oils Distributors Association (NEODA), Seafish, the Frozen At Sea Fillets Association (FASFA), Past National Award Winners, equipment suppliers and trade media.
The 2012 Awards will culminate in a prestigious awards presentation ceremony in London in January 2012. This annual event is attended by over 500 guests representing the great and the good of the fish and chip industry; from fishermen to suppliers to equipment manufacturers to shops, and is also attended by a variety of media. The event is a highlight of the fish and chip industry calander and is a fantastic business and social networking occasion.
