Love Chips? – Love National Chip Week 21st – 27th February 2011

Thick, thin, with vinegar or ketchup, we devour tons of them every year and what better way to celebrate than with National Chip Week. With 255 million portions of fish and chips sold every year it is clear to see they are the nations favourite.
Debate will always rage over which is the best way to cook them. In the North chips are traditionally cooked in dripping fat however the health police would tell us that chips cooked in oil are 'better for us" but what about the taste I ask?!
You can hardly walk past a fish and chip shop without being tempted by the delicious smell, with scientists at Leeds' University claiming that the appeal of their smell could actually be down to the range of different aromas chips contain including butterscotch, cocoa, onion, cheese and would you believe... ironing boards. Strange, can't say I have you ever been tempted by the smell of ironing board?
Whatever their appeal, long may the British love affair with chips reign. For more information click here
