T. Quality is one of the UK's largest providers of frozen at sea fish.
This fish is filleted and frozen within 6 hours of being caught, ensuring
a highly consistent, high quality product. The fish are caught in the Arctic
Ocean, where the waters are unbelievably cold, clean and clear and the
fish are truly wild.
The total annual catch of Cod and Haddock is decided by use of a scientifically
developed Catch Control Rule, the target being to catch only 25% of the
fishable stock (cod 4 years or older) each year. Government scientists
monitor these cod stocks closely.
Stocks of fish are maintained through a number of closely regulated channels
including:
| a) |
Tight quota allocation |
| b) |
Closing areas to fishing at certain times of the year, such as spawning
or known nurseries. |
| c) |
Using nets with meshes of 155mm and in the Barent Sea 135mm with sorting
grids allowing small fish to escape.
|
These measures furthermore are enforced by very active coastguard authorities,
which police the fishing activities. The penalties for transgression are
severe and include loss of licence.
